No investigation against Sobotka after Pilnacek statements

As the “Tiroler Tageszeitung” reported, no initial suspicion of abuse of office was confirmed. Pilnacek had spoken in a bar regarding the fact that Sobotka had accused him of never turning down investigations. However, further investigations into the matter are ongoing. The conversation from last summer was secretly recorded and made available to several media outlets.

No sufficient initial suspicion

Sobotka rejected Pilnacek’s account. The Economic and Corruption Public Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA) then examined whether proceedings should be initiated. Due to a lack of initial suspicion, an investigation was not initiated, as can be seen from the edict file.

The WKStA did not completely put Pilnacek’s statements on file. The edict file also shows that “unknown decision-makers” are being investigated on suspicion of abuse of office.
