[한국방송/진승백기자] In order to provide a smooth delivery service before and following the Lunar New Year holiday and prevent worker overwork, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Minister Park Sang-woo) implemented a ‘special management of Lunar New Year delivery delivery’ for four weeks from January 29 to February 23, when delivery volume is expected to increase. It is designated and operated as a ‘period’ (hereinfollowing referred to as ‘special management period’).
* This Lunar New Year, average daily volume is expected to increase by regarding 8% compared to normal times (16 million → 17.3 million boxes).
In order to ensure smooth delivery, major courier companies plan to deploy approximately 5,300 additional temporary workers*, including trunk vehicle drivers and loading/unloading/sorting personnel, following prior discussions with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
* 1,300 mainline vehicle drivers, 2,000 loading/unloading and sorting personnel, 1,200 delivery drivers, 800 companion personnel, etc.
Local governments and public institutions with large holiday orders place pre-orders for holiday items so that delivery volume can be distributed.
Additionally, to prevent worker overwork, major delivery companies plan to limit collections 1-2 days before the holiday to guarantee workers a break during the Lunar New Year holiday.
We plan to designate a health manager for each branch to check the health of workers every day, and if any health problems are discovered, we will take immediate measures to ensure that workers can take a break.
Ji Dong-seon, head of the Living Logistics Policy Team at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, “We plan to minimize delivery delays by operating a special management period for holiday delivery to not only provide consumer convenience but also prevent worker overwork. We hope that the public will warmly understand even if delivery is somewhat delayed. “I hope so,” he said.
