Ligue 2. Saint-Etienne can no longer do it, GF38 and FC Annecy are slowing down… What to remember from the 19th day

Auxerre was held at home by Guingamp (1-1) on Saturday during the 22nd day of Ligue 2, also marked by the relapse of Saint-Etienne, beaten by Amiens at Geoffroy-Guichard (1-0).

The AJA still temporarily takes first place in Angers (2nd) which has the same number of points (43) before moving to Bordeaux (13th) on Monday at the end of the day.

Four lengths behind the two leading teams, Laval (3rd) did well thanks to its 2-1 victory in Rodez, with a goal from Eldhadji Diaw at the end of added time (90+5). The Mayenne club, qualified for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, had not won in Ligue 2 since November 25 (day 15) in Dunkirk (2-0).

Grenoble (4th) on the other hand was only able to bring home the point from the draw (1-1) from Quevilly-Rouen (19th).

At Abbé-Deschamps, Florian Ayé opened the scoring for the Auxerrois with a header from a cross from Gaëtan Perrin (11th), but the En-Avant equalized through Mehdi Merghem (36th).

However, AJA remains undefeated in Ligue 2 for nine matches (7 wins, 2 draws) since a defeat suffered on November 6 during the 13th day at… Guingamp (2-1).

On its home turf, Saint-Etienne, which remained in four matches without defeat in the league (2 wins, 2 draws), was beaten by Amiens, author of a third victory in a row which allowed it to take 5th place.

Winners of Valenciennes and Annecy, already on the smallest of margins, during the last two days, the Amiens end their month of January with a faultless record in the championship.

A goal from Maxime Do Couto – his first this season in L2 – shortly before the break (40th), was enough for the Picards to win in Forez.

In Valenciennes, a double from Andrew Jung and a third goal from Anthony Knockaert allowed the bottom red team to win their second match of the season at the expense of Bastia (3-1), which slips dangerously to 16th place, only three points from Annecy, the first to be relegated.

Valenciennes had not won in the championship since the 4th day (1-0 at Rodez on August 26). The northern club, however, is four points behind Quevilly-Rouen which inherits the 19th and penultimate place, abandoned by Dunkerque (18th), winner 2-1 at Paris FC (12th) who finished ten following the exclusion of striker Lamine Diaby-Fadiga (74th).
