Over the past half century, bilateral relations between Vietnam and Switzerland have developed extensively in all fields of politics, diplomacy, trade, investment, culture, education and training. In particular, cooperation in trade and investment are two important pillars in the relationship between the two countries and there is still much room for further development.

Switzerland is currently Vietnam’s most important economic partner in Europe. From 1992 to present, through the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Swiss Federal Bureau of Economic Affairs (SECO), Switzerland has supported ODA capital for Vietnam with regarding 687 million USD. Particularly in the cooperation program between Switzerland and Vietnam for the period 2021 – 2024, Switzerland pledged to provide regarding 76 million USD in aid to achieve two major goals: promoting the formation of healthy, oriented economic framework conditions. market and enhance competitiveness and market access of the private sector.

In 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic, trade exchange between Vietnam and Switzerland reached a record number of 2.8 billion USD; 140 leading Swiss enterprises are present in Vietnam with a total investment capital of nearly 2 billion USD. At that time, Switzerland rose to 6th place in the European region investing in Vietnam. After 2019, despite facing many difficulties in the world economic context, the bilateral trade turnover and investment of Swiss businesses in Vietnam still reached positive levels. Switzerland’s total FDI investment capital in Vietnam is currently 1.903 billion USD for 206 investment projects.

With the motto “Cultivating success together”, the Vietnam – Switzerland Economic Forum (SVEF) will carry out dynamic activities and initiatives to promote cooperation, innovation and sustainable growth between countries. Vietnamese and Swiss businesses, deepening bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries in the coming time.

As expected, on June 6, 2024, the Vietnam – Switzerland Economic Forum will coordinate with the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland, agencies and businesses to organize an annual discussion. The discussion was held in person and online, with the participation of representatives of ministries, branches, localities, and Vietnamese and Swiss businesses.

The discussion program will discuss 3 sessions around the main topics of policies to attract trade and FDI investment; Cooperation on digital transformation; Legal institutions, strategies and financial investment opportunities in Vietnam.

Also within the framework of the event, many meaningful activities will be held such as holding a dialogue with the State government in Switzerland to promote local cooperation; Visit and work with Swiss agencies/organizations and businesses; working with the Vietnamese Embassy in Switzerland; Tourism promotion activities…

Previously, on January 24, the Department of Foreign Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam sent an official dispatch introducing the Vietnam – Switzerland Economic Forum and popularizing the annual discussion program that the Forum will organize to the Department of Foreign Affairs. Services of provinces/cities directly under the Central Government, offices of People’s Committees of provinces and cities rich in cooperation potential, businesses and business associations.

Mr. Nguyen Ho Nam (Chairman of Bamboo Capital Group) is the Vietnamese representative holding the position of Vice Chairman of the Vietnam – Switzerland Economic Forum.
