“As soon as I have special requests, my employer supports me.”

Paul Schäfer

Winner of the 2023 apprenticeship competition

In addition to competence, responding to customer requests also played a major role in the sales competition. The expert jury evaluated, among other things, the presentation of the goods, the opening of the sales conversation, the argumentation, the conclusion of the sale and the overall impression of the young salespeople.

I’m also very sporty in my private life

As part of the apprentice competition, he had to sell running shoes to a test customer with a lot of commitment and specialist knowledge. That probably worked so well because Schäfer is sporty and, in addition to skiing, also likes to run. The expertise he acquired through his own sports activities helps him in his job. “What I particularly like regarding my work is dealing with people. New people with very different wishes come to our business all the time, so it’s varied,” says Schäfer.

Second line of work as a bartender

Before his apprenticeship, Schäfer attended the tourism department at the agricultural college in Bruck an der Glocknerstrasse. He used the WIFI education voucher he won at the competition in Salzburg for a basic bartending course, which he completed in Zell am See. Schäfer currently works one day a week in the evening in a bar. This is how he successfully built up a second source of income. A future in tourism is certainly something he is considering, as the apprentice, who has already completed his training, reveals in conclusion.
