ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The 23-ranked Navy wrestling team (6-4, 1-2 EIWA) looks to snap its losing skid in its first meeting once morest North Carolina (7-6, 0-1 ACC) since 2016 on Sunday in Chapel Hill, N.C.

The Mids and Tar Heels will take the mat at 3 p.m. inside Carmichael Arena.

• Navy is coming off two losses last weekend to No. 17 Lehigh (23-15) and Binghamton (18-17)
• The Mids held a 17-7 lead once morest the Bearcats, but dropped the final three bouts
• Navy has surrendered 23 bonus points during its losing streak. The Mids had allowed opponents to only score six bonus points in their first six duals of the season
• Navy has claimed wins over then No. 23 Illinois (23-18), Morgan State (39-0), VMI (40-6), then No. 16 Pitt (21-12), Ohio (27-12) and American (38-0)
• The Mids have outscored their ten opponents, 244-143, and have scored 20 or more points in six duals
• Navy has outscored opponents in six weight classes – 133 (25-13), 141 (42-0), 165 (29-9), 174 (21-12), 184 (26-12) and 285 (31-13)
• Head coach Cary Kolat used the same lineup in both duals last weekend. The Mids had used a different starting lineup in their previous eight duals

• Navy owns a 124-44-3 record once morest the six active members of the ACC with wrestling programs
• The first coaches’ rankings were announced on Jan. 22 and six mids were ranked in their respective weight class – Brendan Ferretti (133, 28), Josh Koderhandt (141, 18), Andrew Cerniglia (165, 21), Danny Wask (174, 20), David Key (184, 33), Grady Griess (285, 15)
• The coaches’ rankings are determined by a vote of 14 coaches in each weight class with two head coaches from each of the seven conferences. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. Wrestlers must have eight Division I matches in the weight class to be considered with at least one within the last 30 days
• The coaches’ ranking is one of several criteria that will be evaluated by the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee during the at-large selection and seeding process for the NCAA Championship along with head-to-head competition, quality wins, Ratings Percentage Index (RPI), conference tournament placement, results versus common opponents and win percentage

Navy Individual Notes

• Cerniglia won the 60th match in his career and 12th in a row by a 5-3 decision once morest then No. 21 Brevin Cassella last Sunday. His winning streak leads the team and is the longest in his career
• The Nazareth, Pa., native has scored 10 or more points in seven matches during his win streak
• Cerniglia is 4-0 once morest ranked wrestlers this season
• He has won his last five matches once morest ranked foes
• The senior is 7-1 in duals this season and 22-4 in his career. His 84.6 winning percentage in duals ranks first on the team
• Koderhandt matched his career high with his ninth dual of the season and the 25th in his career
• The junior has won his last 14 dual matches
• A win on Sunday would give Koderhandt a new career high for dual victories in a season
• The Belleville, Ill., native is expected to face No. 5 Lachlan McNeil for the second time this season. The two wrestled at the NWCA All-Star Classic in an exhibition match, which McNeil won by a 4-2 decision
• Koderhandt and Griess are tied as the team leader in career wins with 69
• The duo is also first on the team in career wins by fall with 20, which is just six victories behind the 10th-most by a wrestler in program history
• Griess’ last six matches have been once morest ranked wrestlers
• Wask is tied with Griess for first on the team in wins this season with 18
• Wask has won four of his five overtime matches this season
• Kaemen Smith will look to double his win total from his freshman campaign with a victory on Sunday
• The Erie, Pa., native is 17-8 overall and 2-1 in duals this year. He finished 9-17 overall with a 2-6 record in duals last season
• Key tied his career high with his fifth dual victory of the season with his 4-3 decision once morest Lehigh’s Jack Wilt. The Norcross, Ga., native had posted five dual wins in each of his previous three seasons

Scouting North Carolina

• The Tar Heels are 7-6 this season and most recently fell in their first ACC dual of the season once morest Virginia Tech (33-3)
• North Carolina opened the year at the Carolina Duals and posted a 2-1 record at the event. The Tar Heels defeated Queens (41-10) and Greensboro College (48-3), but lost to Oregon State (24-13)

• With 74 NCAA Championship appearances in tow, there are just eight programs who have competed in more – Oklahoma State (91), Oklahoma (83), Iowa State (82), Michigan (81), Michigan State (79), Penn State (79), Lehigh (77) and Illinois (76).
