January 26, 2024 – what a church holiday today according to the new and old calendar
January 26 (February 8 according to the old style) is the day of commemoration of St. Theodore the Studite, abbot of the Studio Monastery, who became famous for his good deeds.
Feodor the Studite lived in the 8th-9th centuries. He came from a good family, got a good education. He got married early, then took a tonsure and went to a monastery with his wife. There he prayed a lot and worked very hard – he wanted to make up for the time spent in idleness. Theodore several times opposed the decisions of the emperors, and for this he was sent into exile. After his return, Feodor continued to work in the monastery. But the monk died in wanderings. On January 26, 845, the saint’s relics were transferred from Akrit Chersonese to Constantinople, to the Studio Monastery.
The monk left behind him theological letters, works and the statute of the Studio monastery – monks in monasteries in Russia later began to live by these rules.
