OpenAI’s online store offers a multitude of chatbots intended to simulate intimate and romantic relationships. Just type certain keywords in the search bar to find out. However, this trend violates company policies.
For several years now, we have been able to find applications that offer the opportunity to experience a “loving” relationship with artificial intelligence. We can cite for example: Replika, LoverAI or even AI Girlfriend.
These artificial intelligences can take the form of a woman as well as a man. However, it is clear that their mode of operation remained quite basic and the illusion of an intimate relationship did not really take effect.

But that was before the arrival of ChatGPT. The conversational robot developed by OpenAI has succeeded, to a certain extent, in reproducing human conversation while being able to answer relatively complex questions. Therefore, following its foray into the world of work and into our everyday lives, it is not surprising to now see ChatGPT interfering in our intimate relationships.
Since January 10, OpenAI has launched GPT Storean online store that offers, among other things, personalized chatbots developed by independent entities.
And as the media noted Quartz, GPT Store offers a multitude of chatbots intended to simulate romantic relationships. So, by typing “girlfriend” in the search bar, we find chatbots that indicate in their bio: “ Your go-to girlfriend for intimate conversations, love advice and a touch of joy in your day », « A caring girlfriend offering support and advice “, or : ” A friendly and caring virtual girlfriend, providing companionship and conversation ».
In the same way, when we type “sweetheart” in the GPT Store search bar, we find a multitude of chatbots developed with the aim of simulating an intimate relationship with its user (or rather its users).
As we mentioned previously, these chatbots developed by independent entities have nothing to do with OpenAI (apart from having been designed using GPT 4). In reality, this type of conversational robot intended to maintain romantic relationships violates the rules from OpenAI. Indeed, the company clearly stipulates that the chatbots present on its online store cannot be intended to simulate intimate relationships. However, OpenAI does not appear to be taking concrete steps to stem this trend. Please note that these chatbots are only accessible via paid ChatGPT Plus or Team subscriptions.
In any case, reality once once more seems to be catching up with fiction. In a relatively distant future, maintaining an intimate relationship with artificial intelligence might become part of our morals. Joi (Ana de Armas/Blade Runner 2049) and Samantha (Scarlett Johansson/Her) will therefore no longer be representations of an imagined future, but predictions that will have come true.
