Celebrating 20 Years of Equity and Reconciliation in Morocco: The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) Commemorates IER Anniversary

The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) celebrated this Friday at its headquarters in Rabat, the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Equity and Reconciliation Authority (IER), as an important step in the process of realization of equity, justice and structural and structuring reforms in the Kingdom.

“The IER constitutes one of the most significant turning points in our contemporary history,” said the president of the CNDH, Ms. Amina Bouayach in a statement to Article19.ma, noting that “the most important point to remember, “There is a fundamental break between the management of human rights between 1956/1999 and since the publication of the report of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission.”

Adding that: “The recommendations of the Equity and Reconciliation Authority are the legislative source, the source of institutional amendment, and the source of the exercise of individual and collective freedoms, thus resulting in a totally different space.”

It should be noted that the Council organized at the CNDH headquarters in Rabat a photo/video exhibition dedicated to the IER and the monitoring committee for the implementation of its recommendations.

Thus, by commemorating this anniversary, the CNDH “will highlight the singularity of the Moroccan experience and its impact on the process of consolidation of the State and democracy, while illustrating the Kingdom’s constantly renewed commitment to human rights. of Man”, according to the organizers of this event.

The celebration planned by the CNDH will extend throughout 2024 and will offer a rich and diverse program at the regional, national and international levels emphasizing several axes, including memory and history, reports and publications, documentaries and audiovisual, as well as artistic, cultural and academic events.
