The seven members of a family who were murdered last weekend in a Chicago suburb were the mother, a brother, three sisters, an aunt and an uncle of the suspect, who later shot himself to death during a confrontation with police in Texas, law enforcement authorities reported Wednesday.

Joliet police reported through Facebook that the victims who were murdered on Sunday by Romeo Nance, 23, in two homes were: his mother Tamaeka Nance, 47; his brother Joshua Nance, 31; his sister Alexandria Nance, 20; two younger sisters, 16 and 14 years old; his aunt Christine Esters, 38, and his uncle William Esters II, 35.

Another man, Toyosi Bakare, 28, died when he was shot outside an apartment building. Nance is believed to have randomly shot him and another man, who suffered a leg wound on a residential street, following killing his relatives, police said.

The victims were found on Sunday and Monday, according to authorities. At the moment the reason has not been made known.

Nance died Monday followingnoon following federal marshals located him near Natalia, Texas, regarding 30 miles southwest of San Antonio and more than 1,000 miles away from Joliet.

Medina County Sheriff Randy Brown said his office received a call earlier that day regarding a suspect in the murders heading into the county on Interstate 35.

Brown said he believes Nance was trying to reach Mexico, whose border is regarding 120 miles (200 kilometers) south of Natalia on the highway.

Officers from several police departments confronted Nance, Brown said.

Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans told reporters Tuesday that authorities had no evidence of a motive for the killings.

“We can’t get into his mind,” Evans said. “We just don’t have a clue why he did what he did.”

US President Joe Biden said he and first lady Jill Biden were praying for the victims’ families “and for the broader community devastated by these tragic shootings.”
