The Austrians Stephanie Venier and Cornelia Hütter performed promisingly in the first training for the two World Cup downhill runs in Cortina d’Ampezzo. Venier finished second on Wednesday, 0.47 seconds behind France’s Laura Gauche (1:33.75 mins). Hütter came fourth, 1.12 seconds behind Federica Brignone (+0.48 seconds).
Third fastest in the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) team was Ricarda Haaser (+2.35 seconds) in 16th place. The Italian Sofia Goggia (+2.52 seconds), who last won the downhill run from Altenmarkt-Zauchensee ahead of Venier, was in first place on the Tofana rank 20.
World Cup leader Mikaela Shiffrin ended up way back more than four seconds late following switching to the long bars (43./+4.29 seconds). Another training session is scheduled for Thursday at the 2026 Olympic venue. The downhill runs will take place on Friday (11:00 a.m.) and Saturday (10:30 a.m.), and a Super-G will take place on Sunday (10:30 a.m., both live on ORF1).
