Both are on trial for the October 30, 2002 shooting death of the DJ inside his recording studio in Queens, where Run-DMC formed in the early 1980s.
The death of the artist, at the age of 37, a father of three children, greatly affected the world of hip-hop, and brought to mind the violent murder of two other giants: Tupac Shakur, who was assassinated in Las Vegas in 1996, and “The Notorious Big,” who was murdered. In Los Angeles in 1997.
The circumstances of the murder of Jam Master Jay, a talent scout and hip-hop icon, remained unsolved for two decades, before prosecutors announced in August 2022 an indictment once morest Ronald Washington and Carl Jordan Jr., who were also tried for drug trafficking.
According to their theory, the motive for the murder was an altercation between Ronald Washington and Jam Master Jay, whose real name was Jason William Mizell, over the resale of kilograms of cocaine.
