The price of a bitcoin fell to the lowest value since December 4 on Tuesday morning. Investors are paying less than $40,000 for the largest cryptocurrency for the first time in seven weeks.
The price fell regarding 4 percent to 39,061 dollars (35,878 euros). The price of the second largest cryptocurrency Ethereum even fell more than 6 percent.
Analysts mention to news service Archyde.com different causes. For example, regular shares are currently doing very well in the United States. This makes them more attractive to investors, who are therefore less likely to opt for digital currencies.
In addition, the price of crypto coins has risen sharply in recent months in anticipation of approval from so-called bitcoin trackers. This allows investors to benefit from any price gains of the cryptocurrency without having to buy one.
The American regulator SEC indeed gave this approval earlier this month, resulting in investors investing billions more in the currency. Often following such big decisions there will be a setback sooner or later.
Despite the recent decline, the currency is still higher than it was for most of last year, when it was below $30,000 for a long time.
