Communication with the exploration rover was lost during the 72nd flight to Mars… Analyzing the cause
The Mars Exploration Helicopter ‘Ingenuity’, which lost contact during flight, has resumed communication with the control center.
According to Space.com on the 22nd (local time), the Mars exploration helicopter Ingenuity, launched along with the unmanned Mars exploration rover ‘Perseverance’, lost communication during its 72nd flight on the 18th and was contacted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on the 20th. Communication with the ground control center was resumed.
According to NASA, Ingenuity successfully climbed to the expected maximum altitude of 12 meters on its 72nd flight, and all equipment operated normally, including transmitting flight status to Perseverance. However, while Ingenuity was descending back to the Martian surface, communication between the helicopter and the rover ended.
NASA announced through social media
He added, “We were only able to capture the signal following instructing it to receive communications for a long period of time,” adding, “There was a situation where communication was cut off last year, but Ingenuity’s flight began once more.”
Ingenuity is a small helicopter launched along with the Mars Exploration Rover Perseverance on July 30, 2020. Ingenuity, which landed at its target location on Mars, is flying over Mars and collecting information on whether it is possible to control flight equipment on a planet with a different gravity and atmosphere than Earth.
