Chinese Restaurant Scam and Forgery Case in Walloon Brabant: Legal Proceedings and Fraud Alerts

Pierre and Cristel did not appear at the Nivelles criminal court to answer for forgery. They were represented by a lawyer who had the mandate to plead for their acquittal, a fairly common formula for a lawyer to make it clear to the court that he does not necessarily espouse the point of view of his clients.

So, Deyi Liu and his cousin Zhen Liu operate a Chinese restaurant in Braine-l’Alleud which has a good clientele but they wish to return to their native country. They therefore published an ad which delighted the aforementioned couple.

A new scam is spreading in Walloon Brabant: crooks disguise themselves as scouts and abuse seniors thanks to… boxes of pralines

An agreement is signed on April 8, 2020. The transfer of the fund is set at €190,000. A deposit of €19,000 is paid in cash. The balance must be paid by the following October 31. Everything seems to be bathed in soybean oil and the Rebecquois take possession of the place and begin to operate the establishment but forget to pay the rest.

The Walloon Brabant Business Court is seized of the dispute because it became a question of a price which would have increased from 190,000 to 35,000 €. The court has not yet ruled. Indeed, on April 19, 2021, the Chinese filed their conclusions with the Company Court before becoming civil parties in criminal proceedings on May 17, 2021. The space between these dates was retained as an offense period by the prosecution to establish the prevention of forgery.

Be careful if you receive this SMS: it is a scam

The Chinese try to demand payment of the balance but a purchase agreement for €35,000 appears. It is signed but the expert graphologist considers that the signatures are not those of the sellers.

The court sentenced the couple to ten months in prison and a fine of €2,000.
