Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in Dubai: Strategic Initiatives and Leadership Transition

DubaiHer Excellency Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, former Minister of Climate Change and Environment, held an expanded meeting with Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahhak, the new Minister of Climate Change and Environment, with the aim of discussing the most important topics and priorities of the Ministry in the next phase, in a way that reflects the vision of the wise leadership and the strategic directions of the UAE in Environment and climate change file.

At the beginning of the meeting, Al Muhairi congratulated Al Dahhak on the precious trust placed in her by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, “may God protect him.” Expressing her sincere wishes for good luck and success during the next stage. During the meeting, the two ministers discussed the ministry’s plans, initiatives and projects in the next phase to serve national and governmental priorities in the country. Their Excellencies agreed to provide mutual support to continue implementing environmental action agendas.

As an expression of her gratitude for the efforts of His Excellency Al Muhairi, Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahhak expressed her keenness to continue the process of work and achievement, saying: “I am honored to assume this great responsibility, and I am pleased to extend my sincere thanks to Her Excellency Maryam bint Muhammad Al Muhairi for her remarkable efforts in leading the direction and path of “The Ministry’s environmental work during the past period has resulted in great achievements in our environmental endeavours. I look forward to continuing our national efforts towards establishing more sustainable practices and innovative policies.”

Al-Dahhak added: “Today we are going through a decisive stage in the course of environmental work in the UAE, and I thank my sister, Her Excellency Maryam, for her keenness to smoothly transfer the responsibilities of ministerial work.” She added: “The UAE has proven its leadership on the global stage through the international consensus it achieved at the COP28 Conference of the Parties, and we must continue to work locally to protect our environment and its biodiversity. I look forward to working with all our partners to enhance our sustainable practices and move forward towards a greener future.”

For her part, Her Excellency Maryam bint Mohammed Al Muhairi, Director of the Office of International Relations at the Presidential Office, said: “The UAE plays a pioneering role in the field of environmental sustainability, and its commitment and innovative practices are tangible evidence of the government’s keenness to protect the environment. I am pleased to hand over the baton to my sister, Dr. Amna Al Dahhak, I wish her every success in leading our initiatives towards a brighter and more sustainable future.”

Her Excellency Al-Dahhak has a distinguished academic standing and high leadership competence in the field of government work, and she will devote her rich experience to advancing and leading the main strategic initiatives of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. In her capacity as Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Al-Dahhak will work to pioneer many environmental initiatives in cooperation with many government partners, the private sector, startups in relevant fields, and all segments of society. These initiatives aim to help achieve the goals of the ambitious national strategy to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, in addition to protecting and enhancing the country’s unique natural environment, accelerating the climate action process, developing the agricultural and fishing sectors, developing agricultural technology, and protecting land and water ecosystems, as well as On enhancing biodiversity and ensuring national food security.

Al-Dahhak will focus on enhancing the economic value of environmental programs, and developing research and development programs to enhance food security and environmental sustainability in a way that contributes to achieving the United Nations sustainable development goals.
