There is now a gap between the popularity rating of the president and that of the Prime Minister. Gabriel Attal’s debut at Matignon is judged favorably by 37% of French people, while Emmanuel Macron’s action is perceived thus by 30% of them according to the first monthly Ipsos barometer –La Tribune Sunday.

If the head of state gains three points in one month* (“which means that he was rather successful in his attempt”, advances Brice Teinturier, the deputy general director of Ipsos), the Prime Minister is doing significantly better than him among LR supporters (53% have a positive judgment compared to 31% for the president) as well as among those of the RN (32% once morest 13% ).

Ipsos and “La Tribune Dimanche” launch a new Political Barometer

Gabriel Attal is Emmanuel Macron’s Prime Minister who gets off to the best start at Matignon. In the same situation, Édouard Philippe recorded 31% favorable judgments, Jean Castex 33% and Élisabeth Borne 27%**. While the reshuffle was rather marked by stability, on the ministers’ side there is a real domination of Bruno Le Maire. The man who has occupied Bercy for more than six and a half years is seen as the best element in the government by 44% of French people. Gérald Darmanin follows him with 32%. Rachida Dati is third (23%).

“It’s both a satisfactory result for her, since she just arrived, and at the same time, the sign that she will have to prove herself”, explains Brice Teinturier. In detail, the new Minister of Culture has room for improvement among supporters of the majority, where she only collects 12%. At Les Républicains, she also only obtained 30%.

On the opposition side, the current dynamic experienced by the RN is confirmed. Marine Le Pen is considered the best right-wing opponent by 28% of those questioned, followed by Jordan Bardella (16%). The leader of the National Rally is also the one whose accession to the Élysée would satisfy the most French people (36%). For Laurent Wauquiez, however, the results of this first barometer are very worrying. 9% of French people believe that he is the best right-wing opponent and 15% would welcome his election in 2027.

Within LR, the president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is preceded by Xavier Bertrand. Outside, he is also in difficulty on two fronts. If 29% of Republican supporters judge Laurent Wauquiez as the best opponent, 28% consider it to be Marine Le Pen. If 46% of them would be satisfied with his accession to the Élysée, they would be 54% if it were Édouard Philippe. Note: the mayor of Le Havre is closely followed by Gabriel Attal. 73% of supporters of the majority would welcome the victory of one or the other in 2027.
