Tragic Fire at Beijing Boarding School: 13 Children Killed, Investigation Underway

Beijing: 13 children were burnt to death in a fire in a boarding school dormitory in central China. Children aged nine and ten died. An injured child is being treated. The accident occurred at Ying Kai Elementary School in Yanshanpu Village, Henan Province at around 11pm on Friday, Chinese state media Xinhua reported.

As soon as the fire broke out, the fire brigade reached the spot and started rescue operations. The fire was completely doused by 11:38. The condition of the injured student is satisfactory. The local administration has started an investigation into the incident. One of the school authorities has been arrested.

There were 30 children in the dormitory when the fire broke out. The rescuers were able to get all the children out safely. No further information regarding the dead children or the cause of the fire has yet been officially released.

Ying Kai Elementary School is a school for nursery and primary class children. As it was the end of the week, the nursery students had gone home. A teacher at the school told local media that all the dead children were third graders.
