A woman suffered severe skin damage from using melasma treatment cream bought online
Even though there have been warnings around the time of Tet, recently there has been a continuous increase in cases of post-beauty complications. Why do customers easily believe and use beauty services through ?
I haven’t seen beauty yet, I’ve only seen many people “receive bitter fruit” by going for beauty treatments near Tet. Damaged skin, hair loss, even increased skin pigmentation and infection, permanent scars are the most serious complications caused by improper beauty treatments.
A typical example is the case of Ms. HPY (45 years old, living in Hung Yen), with skin problems Redness, burning pain, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, dilated capillaries, and extremely sensitive skin are symptoms of Ms. Y. following 2 weeks of applying melasma treatment cream at home.
Ms. Y. said that she saw a lot of melasma on her cheeks. After giving birth, those melasma became increasingly darker. Wanting to be cured to celebrate Tet, she searched on the e-commerce platform and bought a bottle of cream advertised to treat melasma quickly. The seller promised: “After 7 days, melasma will be completely cured.”
After 3 days of using this cream, Ms. Y. saw bright, shiny skin. But following 2 weeks, the more I applied it, the more my skin became red, painful, and scaly. Because she bought drugs online, she didn’t know what to do. When she contacted the seller, she only received the answer: “I’m just a seller, I don’t see anything wrong with many users.” then turn off the device.
Too worried because her skin was seriously damaged, through an acquaintance’s introduction, she “hastily” went to see a doctor hoping to “rescue” her skin as Tet was approaching.
Directly examining the patient, CKII doctor Nguyen Tien Thanh, a member of the Vietnam Dermatology Association, said that Ms. Y. has many skin lesions such as allergic contact dermatitis, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and thin skin. and telangiectasia, the skin is extremely weak and sensitive.
“Currently, the number of patients with complications due to self-buying topical medications to treat melasma is increasing. The common symptoms of these patients are red, inflamed skin, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and some cases of telangiectasia. The melasma area spreads… After a period of self-treatment, the entire face and neck area becomes dark, possibly accompanied by signs of hypopigmentation and patchy loss of pigmentation…”, Dr. Thanh said.
“Express” beauty trick for Tet
Dr. Thanh said that as social networks develop, livestream sessions cosmetic clinics have presented very vivid images, and the speakers of those ads tend not to be professionals. medical professionals, without understanding medical expertise, “tricks” only target the criteria that the majority of customers like: delicious, nutritious, and cheap.
All melasma is gone following 1 use; Meso injection costs a few hundred thousand dong, but in reality, good products cannot have that price right from the input materials. Therefore, they will only use floating products. Hitting the psychology of liking , liking things that exceed expectations like : “Completely cured; all acne gone following 1 treatment”, in fact there are absolutely no stories like that.
From this situation, Dr. Thanh recommends that when absorbing information on social networks, especially medical information, people need to be very selective. If you need advice or treatment, you need to go to a reputable medical facility for examination and a standard treatment regimen.
During December 2023 and January 2024, Dr. Thanh received more than 30 patients with complications following beauty treatments at underground beauty salons, spas, and barber shops. Although experts warn many times, many people are still not afraid.
“The patient even hid it, didn’t want to share with the doctor what kind of situation he was in, only cried when asked the reason…”, said Dr. Thanh.
“Currently, most spas, beauty salons, and barber shops often send people to short-term courses of regarding 3-4 months in a vocational style, then return directly to procedures such as: meso injection; filler injection. For customers, it is worth mentioning that the training places do not care regarding the input level and check the training results of the students. Meso injections, filler injections or invasive procedures for minor use are only performed at The medical facility is licensed to operate by the Department of Health and the Ministry of Health and has a technical list approved within the scope of professional activities,” Dr. Thanh stated.
Dr. Thanh commented that only a few establishments of the Ministry of Health such as medical universities and dermatology hospitals are granted training codes in the field of cosmetic and beauty dermatology. These facilities have leading cosmetic experts and physicians who have recently received specialized training in filler and botox injections.
People allowed to participate in this training course must be general practitioners, cosmetic doctors, dermatologists… Therefore, employees at spas, beauty centers, barbers, and shampooers are not allowed to learn to perform these tricks.
To ensure patient safety, Dr. Thanh recommends that women with beauty needs need to be alert and wise to choose reputable cosmetic facilities with a team of consultants and specialists. to perform the service.
