Apple Ordered to Remove iOS Restriction by EU Antitrust Authorities: Get the Latest Updates on NFC Access and App Installations

European Union antitrust authorities have ordered Apple to remove another software restriction on its iOS operating system. The Verge portal reported this.

In particular, we are talking regarding access to the NFC module, which is necessary for using payment applications. From the very beginning, only Apple Pay was available on the iPhone, but EU authorities believe that this interferes with competition in the market. Apple agreed with the requirements of the regulatory authorities, but clarified that this restriction will be lifted only in the European Economic Area. In other regions everything will remain unchanged.

This is not the first requirement of the European Commission to Apple that affects the company’s ecosystem. Previously, EU authorities obliged the iPhone manufacturer to allow the installation of applications from third-party stores, and not just from the App Store. The new functionality will appear in Apple smartphones in the EU in early March.
