American radio pioneer George Clinton now has a place of honor in Hollywood. The 82-year-old musician unveiled his star plaque on the “Walk of Fame” in front of cheering fans on Friday. The legendary singer and songwriter was awarded the 2,769th star on the famous sidewalk. Clinton, hailed as the “Father of Funk,” posed at the plaque in a brightly colored, floor-length coat.

Guest speaker 61-year-old rock star Anthony Kiedis of the Red Hot Chili Peppers paid tribute. Clinton is a “national treasure,” said the frontman of the Californian rock band. He became a mentor, teacher and friend for him when they worked together on the album “Freaky Styley” in the 1980s. At the time, Clinton had produced the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ second studio album.

Clinton formed his first band as a teenager and has since led groups such as Parliament and Funkadelic. His many hits include “Flash Light,” “P-Funk,” “One Nation Under a Groove” and “Atomic Dog.” In 1997, Parliament-Funkadelic was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2019, Clinton and his bandmates received an honorary Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement.

Known for spectacular live performances, Clinton inspired or worked with artists such as Prince, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott.
