He China Ministry of Natural Resources reported the discovery of a large lithium deposit following five years of prospecting and exploration, the official agency reported Xinhua.
The discovery of the site in Yajiang, in the central province of Sichuan, represents a “significant breakthrough for China’s energy security and green development”the Ministry declared on Wednesday.

Estimates of the International Energy Agency (IEA) show that the global lithium demand might be multiply more than 40 times until 2040so controlling an important part of the global material exploitation chain would translate into economic and geopolitical benefitsaccording to some analysts.
China already had around seven percent of lithium resources identified in the world, located in sixth place following Bolivia, Argentina, the United States, Chile and Australia, according to data from the United States Geological Survey cited by the local press.
