ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) — Mohamed Salah will miss Egypt’s next two matches at the African Cup of Nations due to a muscle strain in his left leg.
X-rays confirmed the severity of the injury that forced Salah’s early exit in Thursday’s two-goal draw once morest Ghana, the Egyptian Football Association said on Friday.
Salah was injured in the final stretch of the first half following sitting on the pitch and holding the back of his thigh.
“He will miss the team’s next two matches in the African Cup once morest Cape Verde, and then the possible confrontation in the round of 16 if qualification occurs,” explained the Egyptian Football Association on X, the social network before known as Twitter.
Egypt has still not managed to win in the African Cup. The Pharaohs are second behind group winner Cape Verde. Only the first two places in each group are guaranteed to qualify for the next phase.
On Monday Egypt will face Cape Verde, while Mozambique will face Ghana in the other match in Group B.
