Inicia announced the acquisition of all of Gerdau’s shares in Gerdau Diaco, Gerdau Metaldom, Cyrgo and Kbina, through its investment fund focused on the construction materials industry.
To carry out the transaction, Inicia and Gerdau signed an agreement to acquire Gerdau’s shareholding in Diaco, Cyrgo and Kbina, which requires the approval of the Colombian competition regulatory authorities, being effective once said authorizations are obtained. .

Inicia thanked Gerdau for these more than nine years of partnership, “where together we built a great company that adds value to its clients. “This allowed us to consolidate the positioning of Diaco, Cyrgo and Kbina in the country and in the northern region of Latin America, exceeding one million tons sold, generating more than 1,200 direct jobs and more than 3,600 high-quality indirect jobs in Diaco,” explained the Fund.
It is worth mentioning that thanks to this work of nearly a decade, Gerdau Diaco managed to qualify in the results of the 1,001 largest companies in the country in 2022, from the newspaper Portafolio. The company ranked 146th, with revenues of $1.47 trillion, assets of $1.01 trillion, net income of $170 billion, and equity of $70 billion in 2022.
With this sale, Inicia will focus on consolidating itself in the steel business in northern Latin America, which includes Colombia.

In the country, they currently have a presence in 17 departments, with the same number of commercial branches, with two steel plants, eight cutting and double plants and six scrap metal recycling centers.
Over the time of their partnership, Inicia noted that Cyrgo managed to advance and “deepened their understanding of the market and its needs, discovering interesting opportunities.” On the other hand, Kbina showed growth in the previous year, transporting more than 150,000 tons with more than 130 affiliated drivers.

“We feel very optimistic regarding the potential and future of the companies. In the short and medium term, we are focused on optimizing the infrastructure of Diaco’s production plants for better use of our installed capacity,” the company noted in the announcement.
And he also added that “we reaffirm our commitment to Colombia. We believe in the talent of its people and in the growth potential of the country, which is why we will continue investing and betting on its productive capacity, to continue generating value for Colombia and positively impact its social and economic development.”

Gerdau Diaco has stood out over the years for focusing its efforts on the circular economy, using ‘scrap’ in many of its products.
This achievement is highlighted by the fund, which mentioned that “the achievements achieved by Diaco, Cyrgo and Kbina have been the fruit of incorporating operational practices of excellence, supported by high standards of environmental sustainability.”
Today, Diaco promotes the circular economy as part of its business model, recovering and transforming ferrous scrap into steel products with high technical standards of quality, health, safety and the environment.

Likewise, the company said that it has implemented 4.0 technologies to reduce energy consumption in industrial processes, and in recent years it has invested more than US$7 million in environmental conservation and protection projects.
Thanks to these and other actions, Diaco has managed to be the first company in Colombia to obtain the Environmental Product Declaration certification for locally manufactured rod.

According to Diaco figures, they annually recycle 360,000 tons of ferrous scrap, which they transform into steel products “with the highest quality standards that become the basis of construction and infrastructure works throughout the country.”
“We take advantage of the physical-mechanical and chemical properties of the industrial waste generated in our steel mill to produce decorative elements such as pots or for construction, such as paving stones, curbs, bumpers and bricks, with which we manage to replace a large part of the cement in their different applications. We are also developing materials for road paving,” the company acknowledged.
