Carolina Herrera, the acclaimed Venezuelan designer, was criticized on social networks due to one of the most recent designs that came out under the seal of her brand. Although generally the collections presented by CH have stolen praise from the public and critics for their “sophisticated designs”, on this occasion the opposite happened. This by exposing and describing one of her bags as a “vile sack.”
Carolina Herrera criticized bag
On January 17, the official account of the Carolina Herrera brand published on Instagram images of one of its most recent collections, including a particular bag with a certain resemblance to that of a “sack.” The bag has a simple, rectangular design, with red and blue details, in addition to carrying the firm’s characteristic initials.
The brand expressed the following message on social networks, along with some photographs of a bag and sandals: “Exclusive pieces made by artisans in our Leather Atelier in Spain. Discover #CHPonchoBag and our new #CHDomaInsignia sandals.”
Although some users on social networks highlighted that if the bag had been designed with another material there would be no problem, others took advantage of the publication to express their rejection. Some Internet users pointed out that the bag emulates “product transportation bags” and some even highlighted that the brand is falling into “cultural appropriation” of different Latin American countries.
Among some of the comments collected by Milenio the following can be seen:
- “It looks very similar to a typical Costa Rican product, a sack of coffee and with the colors of our blue, white and red flag.”
- “It seems complicated to me, but I think it is profiting from the identity of a product that represents the identity of a country like Colombiathat is the color and style of the coffee bags for export in Colombia.”
- “Coffee bag Costa Rica”.
- “Tribute or cultural appropriation of the jute/gangoche bags and leather sandals used by farmers?”
