It would be enough to extend family meals by a few minutes to encourage children to eat better – particularly eating more vegetables and fruits – according to a recent study.

The observation is recurring: children do not eat enough fruits and vegetables . A deficiency that increases the risk of chronic non-communicable diseases and contributes to the obesity “epidemic”. A new study review reminds us: family meals play a central role in food “education” and strongly contribute to training children to make better food choices and preferences in the future!

For this to be the case, researchers have identified several characteristics of daily family meals: apart from the fact that they are made up of two thirds of food prepared at homethe most beneficial feature seems to be the duration of the meal.

A long meal at home only 10 minutes would encourage children to eat more healthy food (more fruits and vegetables) than a short meal or a meal taken out.
