Vadodara – 16 people died when the boat carrying a school group on a picnic capsized near Vadodara city in Gujarat. Among the dead, 14 are students and 2 are teachers. A group of 27 students and 4 teachers of New Sunrise School, Panigate, started their boat journey at Harni Lake at 4.30 pm. Only 16 passengers were allowed on the boat.
7 passengers were rescued. The search is on for the rest. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the accident site. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the tragedy. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh was announced for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
