Latest Update on Covid-19, RSV and Flu Cases: Decline, Rise, and Trends in January 2024

2024-01-18 16:33:00

Already experiencing a decline in the first week of the year, Covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) are experiencing a further decline. On the other hand, cases of flu are on the rise once more.

If the first week of January 2024 saw a decrease in all infectious diseases, the situation is slightly different in the week of January 8 to 14.

Covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) confirm their fall with 196 people positive for SARS-CoV-2 (compared to 240 the previous week) and 29 positive for RSV (compared to 52 the first week). For covid, the positivity rate also increases to 10% compared to 14% previously. “These indicators suggest that the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 has decreased,” analyzes the Ministry of Health.

The flu, on the contrary, is on the rise once more since there were 439 cases in the week of January 8 to 14 compared to 360 seven days previously, an increase of 22%. “These data largely overlap with LNS sentinel surveillance which indicates high circulation of the influenza virus, followed by the rhinovirus and SARS-CoV-2,” adds the ministry.
