Over 20,000 francs: “Bigger than my apartment”: Luxury playhouse sparks debate

A Tiktok user shows her children’s huge luxury playhouse. This causes a lack of understanding in the comments.

A personalized, two-story playhouse with a balcony, kitchen and luxury amenities is currently causing a stir on Tiktok. It belongs to Simona and Anthony, two five-year-old twins from Staten Island, a county in New York. The video, uploaded by Olivia, the children’s mother, currently has over twelve million views and almost 10,000 comments.

Most of them question the luxury: “My playhouse back then consisted of two chairs and a sheet,” writes one user, and another draws comparisons to his current living situation: “This playhouse is bigger than my apartment.” The children are described as “spoiled brats” in several comments. But there are also positive voices, one user writes: “I would rent this…” and even Paris Hilton asks where Olivia got this playhouse from.

Luxury homes and game stores

The house was built by Liliput Play Homes, a luxury playhouse builder from Pennsylvania. The company shows a selection of its homes on its website. Cost: Up to $26,000. In return, the buyer gets the “Grand Victorian”, a playhouse with laminate flooring, an artificial fireplace and a working bell. Smaller houses, such as the “Fairytale Cottage” are available for as little as $9,000.

This is the “Grand Victorian,” the most expensive regular arcade on the site. It is available for $26,000.

The “Fairytale Cottage” is significantly cheaper at $9,000.

What is particularly spectacular, however, is the gallery with the individually designed playhouses, like this model in Texas.

In addition to playhouses, the company also offers shops and other “work places” – for example, there is an animal hospital, a café, a fire station and of course a typical general store, just in an XL luxury version. The personalized houses that the company has built can also be seen in a picture gallery. However, the costs are not stated there.

There are not only playhouses that are replicas of homes, but also a general store…

No comparable offers in Switzerland

Luxury playhouses of this size and equipment cannot be found in Switzerland. Even the larger playhouses are more classic and cost a maximum of 1,800 francs. In addition, playhouses of this size would sometimes require a permit, as the building department of the Canton of Zurich explains upon request.

Buildings that are higher than 2.5 meters and larger than six square meters must be approved. Smaller playhouses also need a permit if they are located in a core zone. Regardless of the permit requirement, they must also be at least 3.5 meters away from the property line and the playhouses must be constructed in such a way that children cannot injure themselves.
