Donald Trump’s lawyer faced off with a judge during her client’s defamation trial in New York on Wednesday, as the court heard evidence presented by E. Jane Carroll The former president was convicted of sexually assaulting her.

Trump’s lawyer Alina Haba objected to an answer from Carroll, prompting Judge Lewis Kaplan to severely rebuke her and tell her: “When you speak in this courtroom or any courtroom in this building, you will stand,” CNN reported.

Trump, who is not obligated to attend the civil trial, was in court for a second day, as he seeks to use several legal claims once morest him to rally supporters ahead of the New Hampshire primary and his 2024 election campaign.

According to American media reports, Carroll said during the hearing that she came to court “to prevent him from telling lies regarding me.”

Carroll (80 years old) is seeking compensation in excess of $10 million, claiming that Trump defamed her reputation in 2019 when he was president and she had revealed that he had assaulted her, saying that she “did not like him.”

“It means I’m very ugly so he won’t sexually assault me,” Carroll told the court Wednesday.

In response to a question regarding the damage this comment caused to her reputation, Carroll said: “I was known before as a journalist and now I am known as a liar and a fraud” – qualities that Trump directed at her.

CNN reported that Trump shook his head when Carroll accused him of assaulting her and spoke to his lawyer while she was testifying – and Carroll’s lawyers complained to the judge regarding this.

It is a separate suit from last year’s case in which another New York jury found that Trump sexually assaulted Carroll in a department store dressing room in 1996 and then defamed her in 2022 when he called her a “professional fraud.”

Trump will attend the trial while campaigning for the primary elections in New Hampshire next week, and is expected to be the Republican nominee in the November elections once morest President Joe Biden.
