Active for more than 20 years, the MJC film club offers an art house film every month. It also brings to the commune the “Maghreb so far so close” festival. On the program, two films and a meal.
For more than twenty years, the MJC Film Club has concocted a program of arthouse films that is as diverse as possible, in order to reach the widest audience. “Like the monthly philosophy café, it is also part of the MJC’s cultural mediation mission. Non-elitist, it allows everyone to find their place,” confides Stéphane Povillon, director of the MJC.
From September to May, one Monday per month, the film club takes over the Pierre Richard cinema hall, with a selection made by a committee made up of 5 or 6 people, members of the MJC culture commission, resource people, and representatives from Cinéma’aude. Among its various offerings, some events return from one year to the next, and 2 to 4 evenings including films and meals are organized over a season. Two of these protests took place in the first quarter. The next one is scheduled for March. And this Monday, January 15, the 3rd took place, the “Maghreb so far so close” festival. This festival “born from a collective which brings together a certain number of associations, some emblematic, is in its 27th edition. It is not a PR stunt! We find there the values of Ciném’Aude, the MJC, and the film club, but also those of the regulars of the Pierre Richard room. It is a spirit of community which tends to disappear, it seems to me, that we find within this festival which has a soul and which has become an expected event”, explained René Martinolle, the president of Ciném’Aude, partner of the MJC and its film club, before the first film on display began. He then focused on the two subtitles of the festival: “Secular Boulevard of Cultures” and “Living Together” and affirmed “today we are starting with this new cycle of Living Together. A utopia? Perhaps, but it We’ll still have to get there one day.” Following him, Régine Tourtelier, member of the film club, presented the film and the reasons why it was chosen. In total, nearly 150 entries were recorded and 92 meals were served this Monday evening. Indeed, this festival is awaited.
