Conduct promotional activities to prevent safety accidents at tourist attractions and multi-use facilities
Maeil Ilbo = Reporter Hwang Gyeong-geun | Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 17th that in order to host the safe 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games, it will conduct a safety culture campaign with 73 safety guards from the 18th to the 28th to play a role in preventing safety accidents in the province.
This campaign, in collaboration with the safety and security officers, will be held in 10 locations where crowds of people are expected to gather, including Gangneung Station, Hoengseong Traditional Market, Pyeongchang Trout Festival, and Jeongseon Arirang Market. It will check whether fire extinguishers are provided and maintained, whether roads and sidewalks are damaged, and the condition of emergency exit piles, etc. We plan to strive to raise safety awareness among visitors and local residents by conducting safety inspections and conducting street order maintenance campaigns such as ensuring safe distances.
Safety sheriffs are disaster volunteers who discover and report hazards in daily life and participate in safety culture campaigns and promotional activities. In 18 cities and counties in the province, safety sheriffs are comprised of 800 residents who are familiar with local conditions and members of safety-related private organizations. About 80 people are active in the organization and are working to establish a safety culture in the province.
Kim Moon-ki, head of the Safety Policy Department of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, said, “We will support the safe hosting of the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games together with safety security officials and do our best to ensure the safety of visitors and residents.”
