“Commander President Hugo Chávez Frías has died,” were the words used eleven years ago by the current president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, to announce the death of the person who governed the neighboring country for 14 years.

Official versions indicate that the president died on March 5, 2013 following having fought colorectal cancer for two years. However, there was a lot of secrecy behind this fact, both regarding the true illness that afflicted him and regarding the exact date of his death, which it was said might have been up to three months before the official announcement.

Now, eleven years later, Bumanguesa journalist Patricia Jainot, who worked for twenty-five years at CNN and another four at Univisión, revealed more details regarding what was behind the death of Hugo Chávez through an interview she conducted with him in the section of his YouTube channel “What happened with what happened” to the Venezuelan journalist Nelson Bocaranda.

The one born in Boconó was in charge of giving the world premiere on Chávez’s illness. Thanks to the information provided to him by a Cuban source, Bocaranda was able to disclose that the then president was suffering from cancer four days before he himself made the official announcement. Likewise, throughout the course of the illness, he was the person everyone turned to for information on the subject through his Runrunes column.

Among other things, the journalist assured that Chávez died in Caracas and not in Cuba, as the unofficial versions say, and that it was on March 5, 2013, as Nicolás Maduro and the other heads of the Venezuelan regime claimed.
