Government Launches Free Mosquito Net Distribution Campaign in Kinshasa with Support from Global Fund and Partners

A few days ago, the government launched the free distribution campaign of at least 7,273,447 mosquito nets impregnated with insecticide for more than 2 million households in Kinshasa.

This week-long campaign benefits from the support of government partners including the Rural Health ASBL (SANRU), the Financial Management Support Unit and the Global Fund.

The MILD campaign project manager at SANRU, Patrick Kanku, said that malaria still constitutes a major public health problem due to its mortality and morbidity rate in Kinshasa.

Patrick Kanku reported that the ASBL SANRU used defense and security forces (PNC, ANR, DGM and FARDC) for security before, during and following the mosquito net distribution campaign.

For the representative of the provincial Minister of Health of Kinshasa, Jacob Mutala recommended the involvement of all stakeholders for the success of this campaign.

He asked the security services to lend a hand to the distributors of these mosquito nets.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Health Emmanuel Hollen stressed that the fight once morest malaria is one of the government’s priorities while awaiting the objectives of Universal health coverage.

Scheduled for January 13 to 20, this campaign concerns all 35 health zones in Kinshasa and is the result of a collaboration between the Government and the Global Fund through the ASBL SANRU.
