Crown Prince Leka II and Princess Elia of Albania, who married in a lavish ceremony in 2016, announced their split in a statement on social media.

“Hello friends and lovers”, we can first read in a message on the official Instagram account of Prince Leka, translated into French from Albanian, the language of their country.
“Through this publication, I inform you that LTM Prince Leka and Elia Zharaia have agreed to end their marriage. The marriage having lost its function, they decided to resolve it by mutual agreement by initiating the necessary legal procedures,” we add.

The press release specifies that the couple’s daughter, Princess Geraldine, aged 3, remains “the center of their attention to guarantee her a happy life”.
“Regardless of the commitment to the family institution, LTM Leka believes that the values of mutual respect and understanding will constitute the basis of their relationship,” it is concluded.
Leka, head of the Albanian royal family, married actress and singer Elia in the country’s capital, Tirana, in October 2016. Four years following their union, they welcomed their daughter, Geraldine.
