Thiruvananthapuram – Bank manager H. Ramesh (31), a resident of Cherthala, who was arrested in the case of stealing 215 pav of gold jewelery from the strong room of CSB Bank’s Nalanchira branch, was in a financial crisis due to crypto currency transaction. By creating fake accounts, he took a loan of Rs 51 lakhs without securing gold and invested in crypto currency. It was decided to sell the clients’ gold following the fraudsters took the money.

Ramesh initially invested a small amount in crypto currency. When I deposited 5000 rupees, I got a message that I got regarding 10 thousand rupees. Later, regarding ten lakh rupees were invested in various stages. After not getting the money, when I contacted the agents, I was advised to deposit the money once more. He was assured of a huge refund and showed some documents.

With this, he created fake accounts using the identity documents of his wife and relatives and took a loan of around 50 lakhs without pledging gold. This money was also lost through crypto transactions. I might not complain to the cyber police because it was a fraud. The plan was to repay the loan amount when the crypto transaction is profitable. As the money was not received, the move started to sell the gold in the bank’s strong room.

215 of 7 persons were sold with the help of co-accused jewelery owner Kishore and private consultancy owner Varghese. Loans forged in the name of relatives were repaid. The rest was given to Kishore and Varghese as commission. Ramesh was trapped by the suspicion felt by some of the bank employees.

It was learned that Ramesh created the fake gold loan accounts through the login details of the bank. The police also got the CCTV footage of the meeting of the three at the bank. The owner of the jeweler had taken the gold from the bank at auction. That’s how I met the manager. Varghese was an intermediary who took out loans to people. Audit was conducted in the bank once in six months. In the meantime, Ramesh thought that he might pay back the fraud money. Kishore is a native of Nedumangad Venkamala and Varghese is a native of Perurkada.

Cyber police say that the number of people losing money through crypto transactions is increasing. When you deposit money, you will get a double money message. Only the message on the screen will arrive. Money will not reach the account. There are people who re-deposit money believing that it has reached their account. Later you will be asked to pay tax to get back the investment. If money is transferred to the account, the amount will be lost. With the strengthening of legal proceedings in India, frauds are being planned from abroad. The police pointed out that it is serious that the bank manager himself was cheated in the crypto transaction.
