BVB jewel before the jump?
BVB has already signed two new signings in this transfer window, Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen. But now a Dortmund player might also leave the club. For a storm talent, the signs point to farewell.
In his native Netherlands he was already celebrated as the “new Haaland”. Apart from the fact that he plays in the same position and has a blonde mane, BVB young star Julian Rijkhoff currently reminds very little of the star striker from Manchester City.

Just a year ago, the British daily Guardian named the 18-year-old among the “60 best talents in world football”. He has not yet been able to live up to the high expectations in Dortmund and might therefore turn his back on the club in the winter.
Julian Rijkhoff (l.) has not yet been able to assert himself with the BVB professionals
Ajax Amsterdam is considering Rijkhoff’s return campaign
The 18-year-old currently plays no role at all with either the BVB professionals or the U23s. This arouses the desire of a promising talent – especially at Ajax Amsterdam, as the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports.
The U19 international played for the Dutch between 2012 and 2021 before he made the leap abroad to Dortmund from the Ajax academy.

Rijkhoff dreams of a career as a professional footballer, preferably with his hometown club. Ajax is probably thinking regarding a return campaign, but according to SPORT1 information, BVB has not yet received an official offer.
Goalgetter Rijkhoff dissatisfied with BVB
Rijkhoff shone in the U19’s last Bundesliga game in 2023: in the 3-0 win once morest Verl, he contributed two goals and prepared another. Overall, his record with black and yellow is anything but bad: 65 goals and 16 assists in 81 games – but “only” for the U19!
He has not yet gained a foothold in the men’s area. The result: The Dutchman and his advisor are dissatisfied with his situation.
BVB young star Paris Brunner is ahead
At BVB they wanted to “slowly introduce Rijkhoff to professional football,” it was said. But he currently plays no role in either the U23 or the first team.

His hope of getting a taste of professional life was dashed shortly before Dortmund left for the training camp in Marbella. Those in charge only wanted to take one youngster with them and chose Paris Brunner. Even if Brunner’s statistics (44 goals in 65 games) are not quite as good as Rijkhoff’s, the U17 world champion, who is one year younger, is currently ahead.
Rijkhoff criticism – is van Basten right?
In 2021, Rijkhoff’s move from the Ajax academy to BVB caused a stir. The Dutch storm legend Marco van Basten sharply criticized his decision in favor of Dortmund at the time: “I think this is very bad management. There is no better competition than the Eredivisie for young players in the 17, 18 or 19 age group.” Rijkhoff still chose black and yellow.
Even if he is still considered a promising talent among young talent: Rijkhoff has not yet matured into the “new Haaland” in Dortmund.
