Political actors who are members of the Convergence of Socio-Political Actors Engaged in the Framework of the Inter-Guinean Dialogue hosted a press conference this Tuesday, January 16, 2024. On this occasion, they discussed the “dysfunctions” in the progress of the electoral timetable.
These political actors criticize the fact that there is, until now, no indication of the existence of a preliminary draft of the new Constitution, despite the efforts made by the teams of the technical secretariat of the dialogue framework.
Consequently, they decide to warn Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya’s entourage if ever the fire at the central hydrocarbon depot in Kaloum and other delaying maneuvers are considered as factors that might favor the slippage of the transition timeline.
The members of the Convergence warn the transitional authorities once morest any pretext aimed at “clinging to power”. However, they make recommendations to facilitate a peaceful exit from the crisis.
“1 The essential appointment of a Coordinator for the effective start of the PN-RAVEC. Because he is the only authorizer of expenses according to the provisions of Decree No. 0532. Otherwise certain preliminary steps are taken.
2 To go to elections, the current directorate of political affairs and electoral administration must be established as a general directorate responsible for elections. This is a requirement of ECOWAS in the agreement. But, no draft decree in sight;
3 The dialogue framework also awaits the preliminary draft of the independent election management body following the transition;
4 The provision of the preliminary draft of the New Constitution by the CNT;
5 Rereading the dynamic agreement signed with ECOWAS for the return to Constitutional Order;
6 The Restriction of access to the Internet and the muzzling of the Guinean press constitute today a national and citizen concern. We therefore ask the authorities to take urgent measures to restore the internet and lift sanctions on the media” they recommended to the junta.
