Nails 2,500 families in Añelo will benefit from the expansion of a sector of the drinking water plant which was inaugurated yesterday and will allow the development of the service in the plateau area, in the heart of Vaca Muerta. The budget for to execute it was 200 million pesos and it was completed in response to the claim with roadblocks made by the affected neighbors, more than a year ago. The solution to this lawsuit was channeled through judicial mediation.

The inauguration took place yesterday and the event was led by Governor Rolando Figueroa, who accompanied the mayor Fernando Banderet, the chief of prosecutors, José Gerez, among other officials.

Due to the lack of drinking water, the neighbors started in November 2022 a protest with cuts to provincial routes 7 and 17, for regarding three days that concluded following a mediation that was carried out through the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

From the EPAS it was reported that a second supply module was treated that increases almost 90 cubic meters per hour. The intention was with these works to expand the new drinking water plant, with the incorporation of an independent pre-sedimentation module and a water treatment module. It is expected that around 5,000 inhabitants will be reached with this service.

«Social sustainability is what the inhabitants of each of our places permanently demand. The fair claim of the community of Añelo allowed us to be inaugurating this work today, with a company from Neuquén. “that created the possibility of expanding the supply of drinking water,” Figueroa said.

The Minister of Infrastructure, Rubén Etcheverry, explained that “everything that has to do with water and sanitation within the infrastructure that we are projecting for the province is going to be a priority. And in this, which was born from a genuine claim from the neighbors, with the help of the Prosecutor’s Office, the mediators, we were able to achieve this work with the 100% financing from the province.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Añelo, Fernando Banderet, said that “it is a pride to be able to start this second module that will feed the needs of our development, especially what is the plateau.”

The communal chief described that they have a telemetry study which was done under social and business responsibility (with the Vaxa firm) that might help the community to know what the situation is that exists with water.

The role of the prosecution

Finally, Attorney General Gerez went together with the Deputy Director of Mediation and Criminal Conciliation of the Prosecutor’s Office, Cecilia Basterrechea.

«This is a story that has been going on from the moment that the neighbors, demanding such an essential service, decided to go out and look for an answer.”said.

He stressed that “every time a complex public conflict occurs it is because there was a loss of trust in traditional channels. When that happens, the doors of the Public Ministry are always open to try to replace that lost trust.
