Man in 30s Causes Car Accident Under Influence of Drugs in Seongdong-gu, Seoul: Arrest Warrant Issued

A man in his 30s was caught by the police following causing a car accident while driving under the influence of drugs.

Seongdong Police Station in Seoul announced on the 16th that it had applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A, a man in his 30s, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and the Road Traffic Act on the 15th.

Mr. A is accused of hitting a crosswalk barrier and the exterior wall of a building with the SUV he was driving at an intersection near an apartment complex in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, around 1 p.m. on the 14th. Mr. A’s car almost hit a citizen waiting at the crosswalk.

The police dispatched following receiving the report conducted a drug test when it was not possible to detect whether Mr. A was drinking, and when the test result came back positive for ketamine, Mr. A was urgently arrested.

According to the police, Mr. A was found to have taken drugs at his home, then left and got behind the wheel. Additionally, Mr. A sat in the car with the car parked for 15 minutes. Only following the police arrived at the scene did he get out of the car and was arrested.

A police official said, “We confiscated drugs and medication tools from Mr. A’s house and applied for an arrest warrant,” adding, “We plan to further investigate whether Mr. A distributed drugs.”

The substantive examination of Mr. A’s warrant is scheduled to be held at the Seoul Eastern District Court on the followingnoon of the 16th.
