“France remains at the forefront of new technologies”

What if France became a country that counts in terms of new technology? France’s innovations, he says, were even particularly noticed during the CES in Las Vegas, the world’s largest trade fair dedicated to technology, which ended at the end of last week.

“France remains at the forefront of new technologies. During this CES, France performed, it was observed, watched, even envied,” assures Laurent Saint-Martin. If France has long been a land of innovation, development and research, it is now distinguished by an internationally recognized “French Tech”.

“It’s this French brand on technology and how we ensure that our startups become global champions of tomorrow,” continues the boss of Business France at the microphone of Élisabeth Assayag. France was even the second most represented country at this high technology event.

“The outlook towards France has changed”

According to him, several indicators demonstrate the attractiveness and credibility of France in this area. Expertise also praised by the United States, although considered untouchable in the field. “The outlook towards France has changed and the Americans recognize it. The big boss of the CES, Gary Shapiro, is not mistaken. He came with me to inaugurate the France pavilion of the CES and he regularly cites France as a land of innovation”, supports Laurent Saint-Martin.

Another example: the choice made for the introductory conference of the show. “Every year, a major entrepreneur does what we call a keynote. And this year, it was Nicolas Hiéronimus, the general director of L’Oréal France,” argues the boss of Business France.

Several innovations noted

France also stands out for all the technologies aimed at the wine sector in which it excels. “It is an extremely exporting sector with a particularly surplus trade balance. So all the technological objects around are obviously interesting to observe,” concludes Laurent Saint-Martin.

At CES, French startups dedicated to astronomy have also attracted attention. Notably Unistellar, a Marseille start-up at the forefront of smart telescopes, or Vaonis, a Montpellier company which offers an easy-to-transport telescope, the size of an internet box. Headphones capable of measuring eye activity, designed by Yacine Achiakh, were also noticed, as was this micro-motor for electronic objects which even received the prize for best innovation in the “Embedded technologies” category.
