The disappointment is great for Pauline when, following asking her father to offer her a trip, she finds herself taking a cruise under the care of Natalie Petrakov, her father’s singer friend. On board La Reine Astrid, the little girl is seasick and bored. Hurt by her father’s absence, she becomes angry and makes it known. However, the crossing is an opportunity to meet the real Queen Astrid and young Baudouin and to get to know the crew on board. As the days go by, the little girl adapts so well that she comes to want to live on the liner. And when Natalie leans over her in the evening to kiss her, she tries to retain her perfume.
The talent of Marie Desplechin and François Roca lives up to our expectations. This logbook, written by the heroine for her father, makes the reader vibrate and smile. A happy ending even emerges in the form of a blended family. François Roca excels, in his often full-page paintings, in depicting the atmosphere of an era in which he is comfortable.
