”Around 4:30 p.m., a patrol noticed that fireworks and firecrackers were being set off coming from the Heysel plateau. Once there, the inspectors noted that it was a wedding procession made up of around fifty participants, who were notably shooting Bengal lights,” explains the police zone. “The dense smoke that emerged compromised the visibility of motorists in particular,” she said.
Once on site, the reinforcement services then helped to restore calm, and those present were invited to no longer park in double lines. In the commotion and because of the smoke screen created by the fireworks, two cars nevertheless collided, “fortunately only causing material damage”, explains the police.
The occupants of one of the vehicles, however, continued to fire sparklers, before a patrol followed them and arrested them. Seven other similar rockets were found in the car, and all were seized. The driver, holding a 36-month provisional driving license, was therefore not authorized to travel with two passengers and without an accompanying person.
In total, 16 administrative sanctions and reports were issued, among others for “use of pyrotechnic equipment and violation of the Highway Code”.
