Arctic Blast and Snow Flurries: Cold Weather Forecast for the Ozarks

Good morning, and happy Monday! Very cold air continues across the Ozarks with many places below zero early this morning. The wind chill, of course, is worse, even though the wind is not that strong. Satellite shows some lake effect snows occurring downwind of area lakes, so locations south of the lakes will experience snow flurries today. In addition, some upper energy moving our way from the northwest should generate some light snow or flurries today, especially in central Missouri.

Here, a coating of snow may occur today into early this evening. Temperatures over much of the region will remain in the single digits today, and the wind chill will likely stay below zero.

This is occurring as arctic air covers then northern half of the country with a huge dip in the jet stream.

The wind may pick up a bit tonight, with gusts over 20 mph until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. It should die off just before dawn, but temperatures once once more will be below zero.

A wind chill advisory is in effect through noon Tuesday to account for this. Tuesday followingnoon will be better, with temperatures back in the teens with the help of sunshine.

With sunshine, temperatures will warm back into the teens.(KY3)

A relatively dramatic warm up will occur for Wednesday and Thursday, with temperatures back into the 30s as the cold air retreats and the jet stream shifts north.

We might see a few snow showers on Thursday as a system clips us. Another batch of cold will move in for Friday, but it won’t last as long. In fact, temperatures will rocket back into the 40s by early next week, with rain arriving late Monday or into Tuesday.
