[법률저널=안혜성 기자] The 13th bar exam concluded its long schedule of 5 days with civil law case and elective exams.
According to the test takers who met at the Seoul National University Law School exam center on the 13th, the prevailing opinion was that the civil law case type was acceptable because it included topics that were likely to come up in general, and elective subjects such as environmental law, international law, international trade law, and labor law also had plain questions that did not deviate from existing trends. It turned out that it was.
Regarding this civil law case test, applicant A said, “The civil law test was good enough to know whether you knew the latest precedents or not, and the first three questions of the civil law question were the latest precedents with less points, but the level of difficulty was not that high.” He continued, “Commercial law was also covered, and overall, I think the basics were an important test.”
On the 13th, the last day of the 13th bar exam, test takers who completed all schedules including the civil law case type and elective exams are chatting and taking commemorative photos at the Seoul National University Law School exam hall.
Candidate B expressed the opinion, “There was nothing unexpected and there were a lot of things that might have come out.” Applicant C also expressed the opinion, “The problem was not complicated and was easier than I thought because there were so many.” “We asked regarding minor precedents one by one, and issues were discussed one by one,” he said, expressing his opinion that it was generally okay.
Mr. D, a test taker, expressed his opinion, saying, “There were a lot of big things in the way that asked you to write down everything you know rather than small things. Rather than saying it was extremely difficult, it felt like seeing how deeply you studied.” On the other hand, test taker E showed a somewhat conflicting response, saying, “It was difficult because there were unexpected problems,” and “There were some things I didn’t know what they were asking.”
In the case of elective subjects, the prevailing opinion was that the questions were of a similar level to the previous exams in most subjects. Mr. F, a test taker who chose International Trade Law to take the exam, said, “Actually, I was most worried regarding the elective subjects,” and added, “I heard that last year, International Trade Law was difficult and there were many people who failed, but maybe that’s why this year, the questions that were expected to appear were simple.”
Mr. G, a candidate who took the labor law exam, commented, “The labor law has a set precedent, and it was easy to come up with within that,” and Mr. H, a test taker who chose international law, explained, “The questions regarding finding provisions were not much different from previous years.”
Evaluations of environmental laws were similar. Applicant I said, “What came out came out. “It was at the average level,” said test taker J. “As always, there were things that required finding and writing condolences. He expressed the opinion, “It was an acceptable level of difficulty.”
Meanwhile, this exam began on the 9th with a public law elective, case, and record exam, and was conducted on the 10th with a criminal law elective, case, and record exam. The long journey came to an end with a rest day on the 11th, civil law elective and record exams on the 12th, and civil law record and elective exams on the 13th.
A total of 3,736 people applied for this exam. This is an increase of 92 people from last year and is also the largest number ever. Test takers are very interested in how this increase in the number of applicants will affect the bar exam passing rate.
For reference, the historical passing rate of the bar exam is △1st time 87.25% (72.55% compared to quota) △2nd time 75.17% (76.9%) △3rd time 67.63% (77.5%) △4th time 61.11% (78.25%) △55.2% (79.05%) △6th 51.45% (80%) △7th 49.35% (80%) △8th 50.78% (84.55%) △9th 53.3% (88.4%) △The 10th was 54.06% (85.3%) △The 11th was 53.55% (85.6%) △The 12th was 52.99% (86.25%).

Due to the low passing rate of the bar exam, problems such as the conversion of law schools into high-level examination academies, the bar exam’s failure to take the exam, and typos are being highlighted. As controversy continues every year over the number of successful applicants, attention is being paid to what results will be drawn from this exam. This year, approximately 1,730 successful applicants are expected to be selected, and the announcement of successful applicants is scheduled for April 19th.
