High Employability Degrees in Medicine and Healthcare: CYD Foundation Report 2023

2024-01-15 05:05:06

The report from the Knowledge and Development Foundation (CYD Foundation) for 2023 once once more highlights the good numbers of the degree in Medicine for employment. One year following finishing the degree at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), and passing the MIR tests, practically 100% of its graduates work. It should be remembered that it is offered on the Albacete and Ciudad Real campuses.

At the national level, in Medicine, they highlight that 67% of new graduates are women, compared to the 63% average in the European Union. Also at the University of Castilla-La Mancha there are more female doctors than male doctors.

They highlight that it is one of the careers with the highest salary, with regarding 33,000 euros per year from the first year of the contract. Of course, it is among the most ‘expensive’ to enter, because, on average, each place is disputed by regarding 13 candidates. This is something that the CyD Foundation also focuses on, whose experts suggest that the places in this degree can be expanded by a certain number throughout Spain. They do so by anticipating that life expectancy among the population is increasing and they understand that more healthcare workers will be needed.

It might be said that training in Health is synonymous with employment. And if the highest employability rates – with more stable and high contracts – occur in Medicine, it is not the only degree with optimal results in this sense.

Degrees with more self-employment

The report also indicates that the second most used degree is Optics and optometry (92%), as well as Nursing (88.9%).

Where there is the highest percentage of self-employed people is in podiatry and dentistry (above 50%), followed remotely by speech therapy, nutrition and physiotherapy (between 25 and 30%).

On the other hand, the study highlights that the fields in which there is a “better fit”, that is, a greater proportion of university graduate workers included in the contribution groups of university graduates, are mostly in the health field. In this order, they are: medicine, dentistry, nursing, opticians, pharmacy, physiotherapy and podiatry, with veterinary medicine also being well located.
