83 countries attend national security advisory meeting to discuss peace plan for Ukraine

(AFP, Davos, Switzerland, 14th) In order to find common ground on the Ukraine peace plan, more than 80 countries participated in talks today. But co-host Switzerland acknowledged that it would still take time to bring Russia into the talks.

National security advisers from 83 countries are launching the fourth round of discussions on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s 10-point plan for a lasting and just peace in Ukraine as Russia’s full-scale aggression in Ukraine approaches two years.

The relevant talks were co-chaired by Andriy Yermak, Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, and Ignazio Cassis, Swiss Foreign Minister.

“The purpose is to be ready so that when we are ready and the time comes, we can start a process with Russia – when the time comes,” Cassis told a news conference.

He said the talks would also have to find a way to include Russia at some point, but so far neither Kiev nor Russia were ready to take that step.

The meeting was held in Davos, a ski resort in eastern Switzerland, on the eve of the five-day World Economic Forum (WEF).

Zelensky is scheduled to travel to Switzerland tomorrow, where he will attend the annual summit of global business and political elites.

The Ukrainian Presidential Palace announced in a statement today that Zelensky is scheduled to “meet the speakers of both houses of the Swiss Parliament, party leaders and the president, and participate in the World Economic Forum.”

Chinese Premier Li Qiang will also attend the World Economic Forum.

Archyde.com reported that both Cassis and Yermak said today that China must participate in ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

“China plays a significant role. We have to find ways to work with China on this,” Cassis said. China did not attend a meeting of national security advisers on the eve of the World Economic Forum.

Yermak said that when further meetings on the peace plan are held in Kiev, it is important for China, as a Russian ally, to participate in the negotiations.

When asked whether Zelensky had met with Li Qiang, Yermak said: “Let’s see.” He said he had not yet seen Zelensky’s final agenda.
