President Yoon Seok-yeol said on the 15th regarding the semiconductor investment tax credit that expires this year, “We plan to further extend the effect of the law and continue the investment tax credit in the future.”

President Yoon made this announcement while holding the third public livelihood debate on the topic of ‘semiconductor industry’ at the Semiconductor Hall of Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.

President Yoon said, “There is talk of ‘giving money to large corporations,’ but this is really nonsense,” adding, “If investment in semiconductors expands through tax credits, the profits and jobs of companies in the entire related ecosystem will increase tremendously, and national tax revenue will also increase.” did.

President Yoon referred to criticism from some quarters regarding the tax credit, saying, “In the end, isn’t it helping big companies and making things difficult for people in need?” and said, “We need to make it clear that this is nothing more than false propaganda.”

President Yoon said, “The Ministry of Strategy and Finance is also involved in business. He said, “It is not a government agency that will just see a decrease in tax revenue due to tax deductions,” and “The government is also doing business because it sees that more taxes and financial revenue will be generated when tax exemptions and subsidies are provided.”

President Yoon said that over the next 20 years, a total of over 622 trillion won will be invested in the semiconductor mega cluster that will be created in the Gyeonggi region of Pyeongtaek, Hwaseong, Yongin, Icheon, Anseong, Seongnam, Pangyo, and Suwon, adding, “At least 3 million quality jobs will be created over the next 20 years.” “It is expected that a new one will be created,” he said.

President Yoon said, “Over the next five years, 158 trillion won will be invested and 950,000 new direct and indirect jobs will be created.”

President Yoon said, “It takes one nuclear power plant with a capacity of 1.3 gigawatts (GW) to build one semiconductor foundry. “We use more electricity than Daejeon or Gwangju, which have a population of 1.4 million,” he said. “High-quality and stable power supply is needed, and nuclear power plants are now essential.”

He continued, “If we phase out nuclear power, we will have to give up not only semiconductors but also high-tech industries,” and added, “The nuclear power industry must continue to develop in order to improve people’s livelihoods.”

President Yoon said, “What is the point of investing all of the nation’s human and material resources? “War,” he said. “Modern war is total war. “It is war that grows the semiconductor industry and maintains the world’s highest super gap,” he said. He also said, “The semiconductor industry must engage in a fierce battle of speed by investing all of the country’s human, material, and strategic assets.”

Attending the debate on this day were regarding 20 semiconductor students, representatives of semiconductor-related companies such as ASML Korea President Lee Woo-kyung, academics such as Sungkyunkwan University chemical engineering professor Kwon Seok-jun, researchers such as KIST senior researcher Lee Jeong-hyun, and local residents of Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do.
