Chileans’ Views on Ecuador’s Organized Crime Situation: Could It Happen in Chile?

84% of those surveyed by Cadem this week acknowledged having heard regarding the situation that occurred in Ecuador that forced the president, Daniel Noboa, to take exceptional measures to stop organized crime.

In this regard, 82% of Chileans surveyed agreed with ordering a curfew and military presence in the streets for two months.

Along the same lines, 78% agree with the constitutional state of exception and 71% with declaring organized crime groups as military objectives.

Could it happen in Chile?

The pollster asked how close they saw the possibility of the criminal rebellion that Ecuador is experiencing occurring in Chile.

When asked, How likely do you think it would be that what is currently happening in Ecuador might happen in Chile in relation to the rebellion of organized crime? 54% believe it is “very or quite” likely.

In contrast, 26% said that it is “little or not at all” likely that something like this will happen in Chile and 17% that it is “somewhat” likely.

In other aspects, the approval of the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, remained stable at 32 points (+1 than last week).

Meanwhile, the presidential race continues to be led by the mayor of Providencia, Evelyn Matthei, who is also the political figure with the most positive image.
