Pink is the new blue! As Blue Monday approaches, Thinkpink is calling for more attention to breast cancer in the workplace, and is launching its Pink Monday! Explanations.
Paying more attention to breast cancer in the workplace is the objective of the Pink Ribbon association by calling on companies and communities to transform the “Blue Monday” (Monday January 15, supposed to be the most depressing day of the year) in “Pink Monday”, a “positive breast cancer awareness day in the workplace”. In total, 204 companies and municipalities responded to the invitation this year, the association said in a press release on Sunday.
Returning to work following overcoming breast cancer is not easy. “(Ex-)patients need a lot of support from their colleagues. With Pink Monday, we want to reach out to them and involve employers and employees. Talk regarding it, be there for each other. Its very important”underlined the director of the non-profit organization, Hilde Debackere.
Launched in 2022, the campaign “Pink is the new blue” offers various tools to provide information regarding the disease. Among these, the “mammoquiz” to better detect cancer or “kit complet”, which notably offers expert videos and testimonials from people affected by breast cancer.
In addition, administrations and companies are invited to show their solidarity through symbolic action, for example by displaying their logo in pink or by organizing a fundraiser to benefit the fight once morest this type of cancer. In this way, the participants “are not only sending the message that their employees can speak to them at the time of diagnosis, but also that they will provide them with all their support when they return to work”which is “crucial”, concluded Ms Debackere.
